Uses and Benefits of MONTAIR 5MG TABLET (MONTELUKAST 5MG)
Montelukast 5mg is mainly used to treat and prevent asthma symptoms and to relieve symptoms of allergic rhinitis (blocked or runny nose due to allergies).
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Long-term control and prevention of asthma symptoms
- Prevention of exercise-induced breathing difficulty
- Relief of symptoms of seasonal and year-round allergic rhinitis
HOW IT WORKS
- Blocks leukotrienes, chemicals that cause tightening and swelling of airways
- Reduces inflammation and mucus in the nose and lungs
- Helps prevent asthma attacks and allergy symptoms when taken regularly
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not for treating a sudden asthma attack that has already started
- Not a rescue inhaler substitute and cannot replace fast-acting relief medicines
- Not used for infections, cough due to cold, or non-allergic breathing problems

- Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing
- Mood or behaviour changes such as agitation, aggression, anxiety, depression or thoughts of self-harm
- Severe skin reaction with blistering or peeling
- Yellowing of skin or eyes, or unusual tiredness suggesting liver problems
- Numbness, tingling or worsening of asthma symptoms with rash (possible sign of a rare condition)

How to Use MONTAIR 5MG TABLET (MONTELUKAST 5MG)
HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily in the evening
- Can be taken with or without food
- Chewable tablets should be chewed, not swallowed whole, unless your doctor advises otherwise
- Continue taking it regularly even if you feel well, as it works best when used daily
- Do not stop suddenly without talking to your doctor
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember on the same day
- If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
STORAGE
- Store at room temperature, away from direct heat, light and moisture
- Keep out of reach and sight of children
- Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack
- Keep tablets in the original packaging until ready to use

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to montelukast or any ingredient in the tablet
- Have been advised against it by your doctor for a specific medical reason
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have liver disease
- Have a history of mental health problems such as depression, anxiety or unusual behaviour
- Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding
- Have phenylketonuria (some chewable forms may contain phenylalanine)
- Are already using other asthma medicines including inhalers or steroids
MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
- Phenobarbital and phenytoin (seizure medicines)
- Rifampicin (antibiotic)
- Other asthma or allergy medicines, unless directed by your doctor
- Always inform your doctor about all medicines, supplements and herbal products you take
