Uses and Benefits of SUMINAT NASAL SPRAY (SUMATRIPTAN)
Sumatriptan is used to treat sudden migraine headache attacks and cluster headaches in adults.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Treating acute migraine attacks with or without aura
- Treating cluster headache episodes
HOW IT WORKS
- Narrows widened blood vessels in the brain that cause migraine pain
- Blocks release of certain chemicals (like serotonin-related substances) that trigger pain and inflammation around brain nerves
- Works best when taken as soon as migraine symptoms begin
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used to prevent migraine attacks from occurring
- Not used for regular tension-type headaches
- Not used for other types of chronic daily headache
- Not a general painkiller for body pain or fever
This medicine only treats the attack once it has started; it does not reduce how often migraines occur. Your doctor may prescribe a separate medicine for migraine prevention if you have frequent attacks.
