Uses and Benefits of TONACT FORTE TABLET (ATORVASTATIN 10 MG + NICOTINIC ACID 500 MG)

This medicine is used to treat dyslipidaemia, a condition where the levels of cholesterol and other fats (lipids) in the blood are not balanced.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Lowering high LDL (bad) cholesterol
• Raising HDL (good) cholesterol
• Reducing high triglyceride levels
• Reducing the risk of heart disease in people with abnormal lipid levels

HOW IT WORKS

• Atorvastatin blocks an enzyme in the liver needed to make cholesterol, reducing LDL production
• Nicotinic Acid reduces the release of fatty acids from fat tissue, lowering triglycerides and LDL, and raising HDL
• Together they help provide more complete control of blood lipid levels

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• It is not a painkiller or treatment for infections
• It is not used for weight loss
• It does not treat high blood pressure directly
• It is not a substitute for diet and lifestyle changes advised by your doctor

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Flushing (redness and warmth of face/neck)
• Headache
• Nausea or stomach upset
• Diarrhoea or constipation
• Itching

• Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness (possible muscle breakdown)
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
• Severe stomach pain
• Signs of allergic reaction such as swelling of face/lips/throat, difficulty breathing
• Irregular heartbeat or chest pain

How to Use TONACT FORTE TABLET (ATORVASTATIN 10 MG + NICOTINIC ACID 500 MG)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually once daily in the evening or with dinner
• Swallow the tablet with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Take it at the same time every day for best results
• Avoid taking with hot drinks or alcohol as it may worsen flushing
• Continue taking it even if you feel well, as lipid control needs regular use
• Follow a low-fat diet and regular exercise as advised by your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take double the dose to make up for a missed one

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep in original packaging until use
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to Atorvastatin, Nicotinic Acid, or any other ingredient
• Have active liver disease
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have an active peptic ulcer
• Have unexplained persistent high liver enzyme levels

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have a history of liver or kidney disease
• Have diabetes or gout
• Drink alcohol regularly
• Have a history of muscle disorders
• Are planning pregnancy

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT
