This combination medicine is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when blood sugar is not controlled adequately by diet, exercise, or a single medicine alone.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Controlling high blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes
• Used when a single anti-diabetic medicine is not enough
• Helps reduce long-term complications of diabetes when blood sugar is well managed

HOW IT WORKS

• Glibenclamide stimulates the pancreas to release more insulin
• Metformin reduces sugar production by the liver and improves insulin sensitivity
• Pioglitazone improves how the body's cells respond to insulin, especially in muscle and fat tissue
• Together they lower blood sugar through three different mechanisms

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for type 1 diabetes
• Not used for diabetic ketoacidosis or diabetic coma

• Metallic taste in mouth
• Weight gain
• Mild swelling of feet or ankles

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Headache
• Dizziness
• Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), especially if meals are skipped
• Skin rash or itching

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Signs of severe low blood sugar such as sweating, shakiness, confusion, or fainting
• Yellowing of skin or eyes, dark urine (signs of liver problems)
• Unusual tiredness, muscle pain, difficulty breathing (rare sign of lactic acidosis)
• Sudden weight gain, swelling, or shortness of breath (possible heart failure)
• Bone fractures with minor injury
• Signs of severe allergic reaction such as facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or widespread rash

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with breakfast or the first main meal of the day
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew unless advised
• Take at the same time each day for best results
• Continue healthy diet and regular exercise along with this medicine
• Do not stop the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember, unless it is almost time for your next dose
• If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your normal schedule
• Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one
• If you frequently miss doses, discuss a reminder system with your doctor or pharmacist

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and moisture
• Keep in the original packaging until ready to use
• Keep out of reach of children and pets

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to glibenclamide, metformin, pioglitazone, or sulfonamide medicines
• Have type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis
• Have severe kidney or liver disease
• Have heart failure or a history of bladder cancer
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless specifically advised by your doctor

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have any kidney, liver, or heart problems
• Are scheduled for surgery or an X-ray with contrast dye
• Drink alcohol regularly
• Have a history of low blood sugar episodes
• Have osteoporosis or are at risk of fractures
