• Control and prevention of different types of seizures (fits), including generalised and partial seizures
• Management of manic episodes in bipolar disorder
• Sometimes used for prevention of migraine headaches, as advised by a doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• It increases the level of a calming brain chemical called GABA
• It stabilises overactive electrical signals in brain cells that cause seizures or mood swings
• This helps reduce the frequency and severity of seizures or manic episodes

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
