This combination medicine is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, especially when blood sugar is not adequately controlled with other diabetes medicines alone.
WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR
- Controlling high blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes
- Used along with diet and exercise
- Sometimes used together with other diabetes medicines as advised by doctor
HOW IT WORKS
- Sitagliptin increases hormones that help the pancreas release more insulin after meals
- Metformin reduces sugar production by the liver and improves body's response to insulin
- Empagliflozin helps kidneys remove extra sugar from the body through urine
WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR
- Not used for type 1 diabetes
- Not used for diabetic ketoacidosis
- Not a treatment for weight loss, though weight loss may occur as a side effect
- Not used for children
This medicine does not cure diabetes but helps manage it. Regular monitoring of blood sugar, kidney function and HbA1c is needed while on this treatment.

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

- Skin rash or itching
- Loss of appetite
SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY
- Signs of lactic acidosis such as severe weakness, muscle pain, trouble breathing, unusual tiredness
- Symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, confusion, even with near-normal blood sugar
- Signs of dehydration or very low blood pressure
- Severe urinary tract infection with fever, back pain, or blood in urine
- Signs of pancreatitis such as severe stomach pain radiating to the back
- Allergic reaction with swelling of face, lips, throat, or difficulty breathing

HOW TO TAKE IT
- Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with a meal to reduce stomach upset
- Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew
- Do not change the dose on your own
- Drink plenty of water while taking this medicine
- Continue diet and exercise plan as advised
IF YOU MISS A DOSE
- Take it as soon as you remember
- If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose
- Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
- If you miss doses often, tell your doctor

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU
- Are allergic to sitagliptin, metformin, empagliflozin or any ingredient in this medicine
- Have severe kidney disease
- Have diabetic ketoacidosis or type 1 diabetes
- Have severe liver disease
- Have a history of severe dehydration or low blood pressure
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless advised by your doctor
TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU
- Have kidney or liver problems
- Have a history of urinary tract or genital infections
- Have heart problems or low blood pressure
- Are scheduled for surgery or an imaging test that involves contrast dye
- Drink alcohol regularly
- Are elderly or have a history of low blood sugar episodes
