Uses and Benefits of ISTAMET EMPA 25/100/1000 Tablet (Empagliflozin 25mg + Sitagliptin 100mg + Metformin 1000mg)

This medicine is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and single medicines are not enough to control blood sugar.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Controlling high blood sugar in type 2 diabetes
• Used when Metformin alone is not enough to control sugar levels
• Sometimes used along with other diabetes medicines or insulin as advised

HOW IT WORKS

• Empagliflozin helps the kidneys remove excess sugar through urine
• Sitagliptin helps the body release more insulin after meals and reduces sugar production by the liver
• Metformin reduces sugar production by the liver and improves the body's response to insulin

WHAT IT IS NOT USED FOR

• Not used for type 1 diabetes
• Not used for diabetic ketoacidosis
• Not a substitute for insulin in patients who require it
• Not used for weight loss purposes alone

COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Nausea
• Diarrhoea or stomach upset
• Increased urination
• Loss of appetite
• Mild headache

LESS COMMON SIDE EFFECTS

• Genital yeast infections
• Urinary tract infections
• Dizziness
• Skin rash or itching
• Joint pain

SERIOUS SIDE EFFECTS — STOP AND SEE A DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY

• Signs of low blood sugar such as shakiness, sweating, confusion
• Severe stomach pain with nausea and vomiting (possible pancreatitis)
• Signs of ketoacidosis such as fast breathing, unusual tiredness, fruity breath odour
• Severe dehydration or low blood pressure
• Signs of urinary tract or genital infection with fever
• Unexplained muscle pain with weakness (possible lactic acidosis)
• Severe allergic reaction such as swelling of face, lips, or difficulty breathing

How to Use ISTAMET EMPA 25/100/1000 Tablet (Empagliflozin 25mg + Sitagliptin 100mg + Metformin 1000mg)

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Take exactly as prescribed by your doctor, usually with meals
• Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew
• Drink enough fluids during the day, especially in hot weather
• Continue diet and exercise plan as advised
• Do not stop the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

• Take it as soon as you remember
• If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one
• Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed one
• If you often forget doses, ask your doctor about reminders or dose timing

STORAGE

• Store at room temperature, away from heat and moisture
• Keep in the original pack until ready to use
• Keep out of reach of children
• Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Are allergic to Empagliflozin, Sitagliptin, Metformin, or any other ingredient
• Have severe kidney disease
• Have diabetic ketoacidosis
• Have severe liver disease
• Are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless advised by your doctor

TELL YOUR DOCTOR BEFORE STARTING IF YOU

• Have kidney or liver problems
• Have a history of pancreatitis
• Have heart failure or low blood pressure
• Are scheduled for surgery or an imaging test with contrast dye
• Drink alcohol regularly
• Are on a low-carbohydrate or ketogenic diet
• Have frequent urinary tract or genital infections

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Insulin or other diabetes medicines (risk of low blood sugar)
• Diuretics (water pills)
• Certain blood pressure medicines
• Steroids
• Contrast dye used in X-ray or CT scan procedures
• Alcohol
