Ursodeoxycholic Acid is mainly used for gallbladder and liver-related conditions where bile flow needs to be improved.

WHAT THIS MEDICINE IS USED FOR

• Dissolving small cholesterol-based gallstones in patients not fit for surgery
• Treating primary biliary cholangitis, a chronic liver disease
• Managing liver problems caused by prolonged bile flow blockage
• Sometimes used to prevent gallstones during rapid weight loss, as advised by doctor

HOW IT WORKS

• It reduces the amount of cholesterol released by the liver into bile
• It lowers cholesterol levels in bile, helping dissolve small stones over time

HOW TO TAKE IT

• Do not stop the medicine suddenly without consulting your doctor, especially in liver disease
• Continue for the full duration advised, as gallstone dissolution can take several months

IF YOU MISS A DOSE

DO NOT TAKE THIS MEDICINE IF YOU

• Have acute inflammation of the gallbladder or bile ducts
• Have frequent biliary colic (severe gallbladder pain episodes)

• Are pregnant, planning pregnancy, or breastfeeding

MEDICINES THAT CAN INTERACT

• Cholestyramine or antacids containing aluminium, which reduce absorption
